Southern Investment Company records, 1891-1909.

Records consist of business correspondence, financial statements, contracts and other legal documents, receipts, stockholders' proxies, minutes, notes, invoices, lists of stockholders and company holdings, and other items. Correspondence includes a letter (1901) to the stockholders from company president F.W. Wagener. Other correspondents include the law firm of Simons, Siegling & Cappelmann (Charleston, S.C.), George A. Wagener (nephew of F.W. Wagener), and R.Q. Pinckney. Included are lists of real estate holdings of the Southern Investment Co. in Siegling (S.C.) and elsewhere, statements of assets and liabilities, statements of receipts and disbursements, and monthly statements for cash accounts. Much material pertains to the company's dealings with the Carolina Midland Railway. Other items include a corporate income tax return (1894); the company charter (1891); a blueprint (n.d.) of a proposed connection between the Carolina Midland Railway and the Port Royal & Western Carolina Railroad at Allendale (S.C.); and a report (1899) by F.W. Wagener regarding real estate owned by the company.
